Using the iPark App in Chania, Crete

It’s been over a year since the local municipality launched a new parking app that allows you to easily pay for your parking space in the city from your phone.

It’s the iPark Chania App. You do not need to be a resident to use it; the app is also easy for tourists.

Here, I will show you how to use the i-Park Chania App to pay for parking in Chania town, Crete, how the app works, and how to extend the parking time once you’ve paid for a given time slot. It’s easy and practical.

Even when more parking spots are still a primary need all year round, and locals are still waiting for them, this is probably the first step to a more organized parking system in Chania.

Download the iPark Chania App

First, you must head to the App Store or Google Play, depending on your phone, and download the app. Below are the links to both platforms for your convenience.

How to Use the iPark Chania App to Pay for Parking

iPark App: The new way to park in Chania.

Once you have downloaded the iPark Chania app, sign in with your social media account (Google or Facebook) or create a new account using your e-mail.

You will enroll your car (or rental car) with the plate number. You can enroll as many cars as you want and select the city (the only option you have is ฮงฮฑฮฝฮนฮฌ – Chania).

💡 Remember to introduce the plate number. You must use Latin letters and not Greek letters.

Then, you will select the hours you plan to park (and minutes). To top up the app wallet, you can use your credit or debit card and select an amount that is enough to pay for the parking time.

You will buy parking time and pay online through your account. If you purchase โ‚ฌ10 or more in credit, you will get a 12% discount on parking fees.

ℹ️ >> As of January 2024, parking prices are โ‚ฌ1 per hour and โ‚ฌ0,30 per 30 minutes.

What Happens if You Need to Extend the Parking Time?

The mail you get when parking time is about to expire.

Got caught up at dinner, chatting with friends, or admiring the gorgeous sights of the old town? Worry not! You will receive a text message (and an e-mail if you choose that option) informing you that the parking time is about to expire.

You can either run to your car and leave or comfortably extend the parking time (by paying for extra time) from your I-PARK CHANIA App on the phone or tablet without any stress.

What Happens if You Don’t Have a Smart Device?

The municipality considered all visitors and citizens who do not use smartphones or prefer to pay for parking time the old way. Parking time can be purchased from one of the many sale points in the city.

Different partner stores, such as kiosks and local periptero (Greek kiosks), minimarkets, OPAP agencies, and other shops, carry a special iPARK CHANIA app marking for you to identify them and purchase parking time.
