If you want to avoid staying the the city center, which can get really busy in sumnmer, the following areas offer a calmer atmosphere without being to far from Agios’ attractions, entertainment, museums, restaurants, and bars.

Plaka

Not far from the more sophisticated Elounda, Plaka has somehow has managed to keep an off-the-beaten-track atmosphere. There’s not much to do in Plaka and I think this is what makes it a charming place for holidays.

There are bars and traditional tavernas, some souvenir shops, and a picturesque, shallow pebble beach. Plaka is a good option to savor the quiet pace of life on the island, since it’s even smaller than Elounda. The small fishing village exudes Cretan charm and is one of my favorite places to stay in Lasithi.
