One of my kid’s favorite places for a fun day on the island, this park near Hersonissos offers family-friendly attractions that combine fun, Cretan folklore, and mythology.
The highlight is the massive labyrinth inspired by the myth of the Minotaur, where visitors solve challenges to find their way out. Dinosauria Theme Park
📍 International Exhibition Center (DEKK), Gournes, Heraklion.
Dinosaur enthusiasts will love this attraction located near Heraklion. It showcases life-size animatronic dinosaurs in a naturalistic setting. There are educational exhibits, a fossil museum with authentic finds, a fossil excavation site, a wonderful hospital for dinosaurs, and a 5D cinema that immerses visitors in prehistoric worlds.

WaterCity Water Park
📍 Anopolis, Heraklion.
Another favorite of my kids when spending time in Heraklion, this water park in Anopolis is packed with over 30 slides and activities that won’t give them a minute to get bored!
From adrenaline-pumping rides like the Kamikaze slide to more relaxed options like the lazy river, everyone in the family will find the right activity to have fun. Aquaplus Waterpark
📍 Hersonissos, Heraklion.
Aqua Plus Water Park is one of the largest water parks in Crete, perfect for a day of fun under the sun. The park features a wide range of slides, pools, and attractions for everyone in the family, from babies and toddlers to teens.
Thrilling water slides, lazy rivers, and a wave pool provide various options for enjoyment. Families can relax in designated areas while children play in the interactive children’s zones. Aquaworld Aquarium & Reptile Rescue Centre
📍 Hersonissos, Heraklion.
Aquaworld Aquarium & Reptile Rescue Centre is a small, interactive animal sanctuary and one of Creteโs first such attractions. The place focuses its activities on the care and rehabilitation of rescued marine life and reptiles. The center provides an educational and hands-on experience, making it a popular destination for families, animal and conservation enthusiasts.
The center eatures local Mediterranean marine species, such as fish, octopuses, and eels in tanks that mimic their natural habitats. It also provides shelter to a variety of reptiles, including snakes, lizards, tortoises, and geckos. Kids love the fact that they can touch or hold certain reptiles under the supervision of trained staff.

Cretan Thematic Park: Meeting the Minoans
📍 Kato Archanes, Heraklion.
Located approximately 15 kilometers south of Heraklion, this park offers an immersive cultural experience bringing the Minoan civilization to life through reconstructed settings, interactive exhibits, and engaging workshops, showcasing the history, mythology, and daily life of the Minoans.
During the visit, your kids will be ab le to explore life-sized replicas of Minoan homes, workshops, and communal areas, witness artisans creating pottery, weaving textiles, and painting frescoes using ancient methods or discover how Minoans farmed, prepared meals, and used herbs in cooking and medicine.

CretAquarium Thalassokosmos

This is one of our favorite places to explore in Heraklion. Considered one of the most interesting and largest aquariums in Greece, CretAquarium showcases over 200 species of Mediterranean marine life, including sharks, sea turtles, and colorful fish.
Interactive exhibits and behind the scene sessions make it a hit with kids. The aquarium is also an educational center, with interactive displays, guided tours, and programs that raise awareness about marine conservation. Starbeach
📍 Hersonissos, Heraklion.
This is a fantastic day trip destination for families with kids staying in Heraklion but also in Malia, Hersonissos or Stalis. The complex features live entertainmnet, go-carts, water slides, and water sports.
Starbeach is part of the Starbeach Hotel and Water Park and offers activities both for families and party-goers since, during the day, itโs a family-friendly water park with slides and sports while, by night, it transforms into a party destination featuring world-class DJs!
Note: There is no entrance fee, but umbrella and sunbeds have a fee.

Reptisland
📍 Melidoni, Rethymno.
Just a short car ride from Rethymno, this place offerfs an intimate and hands-on experience with a wide variety of reptiles, making it a popular attraction for families with kids that love animals. Reptisland has snakes, lizards, frogs, tarantulas, chameleons, geckos, and even crocodiles from across the world. It’s a place for the family to watch, touch, and learn about the world of reptiles: You will interact with these creepy animals from real close!
Many of the animals in the park are rescues, and the facility emphasizes education and awareness about these often misunderstood creatures. Visitors have the unique opportunity to interact directly with some reptiles, such as holding snakes or observing turtles up close under the supervision of trained staff. Aqua Creta Limnopoulis Water Park
📍 Varipetro, Chania.
Conveniently located just outside Chania, Limnoupolis Water Park is easy to reach by car or organized shuttle services. Inside this water park, kids will find the excitement of thrilling water slides while parent will enjoy a serene float down the lazy river.
One of my kids’s favorite parks on the island, the place feafures a safe and fun environment for kids and family-friendly amenities. Close to the city center, the park can be a refreshing escape from the summer heat and Chania’s crowded beaches.

Botanical Park and Gardens of Crete
📍 Fournes, Chania.
Although I would not consider this a theme park per se, kids (and not just my kids) enjoy the two-hour hike discovering the unique plants that grow in Crete and all over the world.
Featuring different gardens, a pond with duck, turtles, and geese, local wild goats, and donkeys, this is one of the nicest hiking trails for families with kids that don’t feel their children are ready to face more demanding hikes through the different gorges on the island. After the visit, it is possible to enjoy an authentic Cretan lunch in their beautiful restaurant while gazing at the White Mountains.

Minoan’s World 9D Experience
📍 10, Ipsilanton Street, Chania city center, Chania.
Combining interactive experiences with museum-like exhibitions, this eclectic place in the center of Chania can be a fun place to visit on a rainy day in town, only steps from the Public Market and the Old Venetian Harbor.
Minoan’s World is an interactive museum that offers an immersive experience of Europe’s oldest civilization, the Minoans. Your kids can check out lifelike statues, wall paintings, and fascinating artifacts while learning about Minoan history and myths.

This wildlife park is devoted to the preservation and education about animals from tropical and exotic regions. It features various species, including birds, reptiles, and mammals, offering your kids the chance to observe and learn about these creatures.
The park takes pride in raising environmental awareness. This park offers both an educational and enjoyable experience for families and animal enthusiasts spending time in East Crete. The highlight of the park? The close-up contact with monkeys and lemurs!
